This fund is attributed monthly by votes from Microsoft's employees, and it had already granted some money to systemd and leaflet, the small framework to implement interactive maps on the web. The fund for may has finally been attributed, and it's going to GNOME, so the desktop environment will get 10 000 US dollars to work on whatever they want. This might not seem like much, but this could fund a few months of development work, maybe for projects like accent colors, the recoloring API for libadwaita, or Mobile GNOME shell. Why GNOME, though? Well it looks like MS employees who want to use Linux can only use Ubuntu LTS, since some of their specific software only runs on that, so they use GNOME by default. It only makes sense that they'd want to reward, and improve something they use themselves. And now you can all comment that it's dirty money and that it's going to taint GNOME.
